Light Painting with Damian Hock

Basically there is a very talented photographer in our area called Damian Hock. He's done this really cool light painting trick for years and he really knows his stuff.
So we got together to do a shoot which was really interesting because we had me with the ideas and the ladies :P and the complete lack of technical know how. And then Damian with all the technical know how just no models to shoot.
So I gathered together some cronies and we trampled through the snow to hide under a bridge and make silly shapes with lights in the dark with a secutiry guard having a nosey... here's the results!

This is my favourite shot of the night because I think it captures a good mix of what I like as a photographer and what Damian had taught me. It's also the least blurry from shiverring models :P

this one of Jody was one of the first we did and we were still getting timing right aswell as keeping still :P
So the face is a bit blurry but I can't fault the pose so that's why it's here =]

So yeah, lots to learn, long way to go.
Next time we're in a studio :P warmer =]
Poor girls! I owe them so much!

thinking...

What makes a good photographer.
To me it is many things...

Creativity - to think of something new
Originality - to show some thing new
Skill - to show it well
Nerve - to try something different
and ofcourse to be humble and appreciate other art and accept inspiration from the strangest of things =]

funmagic

So i've been having lots of fun with Camera since it came back =]
Been doing some shot's i've been meaning to do and then some that just come to my head. The whole idea behind all the self portraits are to practice skills that I need to perfect before applying them to other peoples pitures =]

So here are a few more....

The idea behind this one was to practice working on slow shutter speeds. After a few shots I developed a kind of nightmarish can't sleep keep moving idea, I ended up with something similar but I think it looks more like a ghost.

This was an idea I've had in my head for a while really, the colour, the light and shadows all of it =] I'm really pleased how this turned out

This was inspiration from a fellow flickrite, it's an idea I have had myself for a long long time and I totally overlooked it and forgot about it untill i was reminded =] thank you

So these are just linked from my flickr page http://www.flickr.com/
My page www.flickr.com/photos/eriinbrowne/
It's much easier uploading that way. But seeing as I'm not a pro account i've almost reached my limit and I'm not happy and I'll have to start uploading from my comp which takes aaages =/

fond

I am quite fond of a recent picture I posted so here it is =]

For the sake of fun i thought I'd post a little how to.
going to give away my secret behind the picture which i really don't want to do but hell it was quite a bit of processing so now we can all appreciate the work done =]

So here are the two images I used. My lens wasn't wide enough to fit me on fully :P
Made it hard for myself though by screwing up in a ball on the second one, so there was a bit of dodgey editing to be done there.

So basically this was just a case of dodging, burning, layering, cloning, and painting =]
Then made black and white =]

Today

The third of the second two thousand and ten.
I have been googling and researching more and more photographers.
Not only have I been looking at the iconic photographers who have already made it to where I want to be, but the people who are working their way up and looking really promising.

There is so much talent out there one can so easily give up and say 'You know what? No matter what I do there will always be someone better than me'
But I'm not prepared to use that line again. I've done it all the way through school and college and now my work. But this, my passion, is something I am going to always do, well just because.

There are so many people to be inspired by and it is so humbling to see the range of talent and styles out there! I suppose this post is almost a tribute to any one I have ever stumbled across on flickr.
Every day is a lesson and for this subject, I'm front and centre pen in hand!

Good Night Mr Magpie

... I saw a dead magpie on my way to work this morning.
All my life my mother has always taught us to say 'Good Morning Mr Magpie' or Afternoon or Evening...

Never have  I had to say 'Good Night Mr Magpie'
I didn't like it.

I had a little giggle...

Working with a bunch of men really does change the way you look at things.
The longer I work with them the more I take on a similar attitude.
Which is, as you can imagine, laid back and happy with what I have.
This way perks are surprises and bad times are just a phase.

It's made me grow up alot, which I am thankful for.
It's a small town where I live, It's easy to get caught up in the gossip and the hype, you forget there is more out there, so much more.
So after all the ego you're always only left with Barrow, as nice a town as it is, compare it to the world and it will always only ever be Sugar against Vogue.

Aim high!

Shoot with Ash

So it's about time I actually got some pictures up on here
Did a shoot this evening with my friend Ashleigh, this is the outcome =]

This is my favourite picture from the shoot!

Aidan came to pick up his camera that he so kindly lent me over the weekend, really didn't want to give it back =[ I use the 40D he uses the 50D and WHAT a difference! I was also getting too comfortable using those little diffuser thingmabobs that you shove on the end of your flash... must get one of those haha I think it's about time I actually did something the conventional way! Meh where would the fun be if i did it that way!

Here are some outtakes from this shoot....

As you can see it was stupidly cold and poor Ash's toes were the closest shade to blue that I have ever seen a person go! But she pouted her way through it what a star!

I owe her one!
